Silver Reed wasn’t far from Mystic Moon. The coven was about two miles down the road in a cottage-style house. When I knocked on the door, a pretty young woman with shoulder-length blond hair opened it.

“Hello,” she said with a wide smile. “Are you here for our candle special? This week it’s jasmine, frankincense, and a dash of vanilla.”

“No, I’m not, but it smells divine.”

“Thank you. It’s my concoction and my first one at that. Come on in, and I’ll show them to you. Maybe I’ll be able to convince you to buy one after all.” She held the door open so that I could step inside.

There were dried flowers and herbs bundled together with twine hanging from the wooden beams that ran across the ceiling. A variety of crystals in all shapes and sizes were displayed throughout the shop, and along one whole wall, there were spell books and instruction manuals.

“The candles are over here,” she said, leading me to the far end of the room where a large display was located. There were hundreds of candles in a rainbow of colors, each scent more tantalizing than the last. “This is mine.” She picked up a tin that housed a lavender candle sprinkled with citrine gemstone chips. She picked one out and rolled it between her fingers. “These stones will align all your chakras. They’ll also remove negative influences from your life and bring you luck and prosperity.”

“Well, I certainly could use all of that.”

She laughed as she held the candle up to my nose. “What do you think of the scent?”

“It’s wonderful, and you said this was your first time making them?”

“Yes, I’m a junior witch, so I’m still learning the ropes,” she replied.

I was excited by the coincidence. “You’re kidding? That’s why I’m here.”

Intense astonishment touched her lovely face. “You’re a junior witch too? What coven do you belong to?”

I hesitated a moment. Nervousness slipped back to grip me. “I don’t have a coven, not yet anyway. I just found out I was a witch last night. My mom used to belong to Silver Reed, but she left a long time ago.”

Her bright, clear blue eyes were direct. “Oh, my. Well, you’ve certainly come to the right place. We’re always looking for eager new witches. I’ll let Stella know you came by. She’s our High Priestess. In the meantime, take the candle along with this.” She picked up a lovely amethyst stone and handed it to me. “It works well with citrine, and because of its high vibration, it blocks stressful energy and will bring peacefulness to your mind.”

Being a psychic, I already knew quite a lot about crystals and thought it so nice of her to be offering some to me. “How much do I owe you?” I asked, taking my wallet out of my purse.

She pushed my hand away. “No, no. You don’t owe me anything. They’re a gift. I’ve never sponsored anyone before, so you’ll be my first. I can’t tell you how excited I am.
